#01 - Intro to our Scargazers Journey

Thank you for joining us on our Scargazers journey.

I often get asked to clarify what exactly we’re planning to do.

People say, “The name is intriguing, but help me understand your plans.” This first newsletter will highlight the backstory and help you know what to expect as you follow along.

The Backstory

Both of us have been followers of Christ since 1984, and one of the key areas that has intrigued us for many years is the idea surrounding the impact of a worldwide flood. If it happened as the Bible tells us, then we should expect to see evidence all over the world.

Scargazers was an idea that came from many years of flying all over the US for business travel. I was that guy on those early morning flights with my window shade up looking out at the amazing landscape.

On one of those trips, it occurred to me that I was looking at a landscape that was clearly formed by large volumes of water, was it from Noah’s flood?

As I pondered what I was seeing out that little airplane window, it occurred to me that I was seeing the scar left over from that flood, and we are all Scargazers!

Since that day many of our vacation destinations were chosen based on wanting to see some of the areas I had flown over, like the photo above in Canyonlands NP.

We like to say, “Every scar has a story, the earth is scarred, what’s the story?” We formed Scargazers to answer that question.

The photo above is an example from one of my flights, including the dirty window.

That’s the Colorado River that most people raft along just south of Page, AZ. A few years ago, we did that raft trip partly because of seeing it from this view first.

The Story Starts in Genesis

In our next newsletter we plan to provide more details about the Biblical story of a man named Noah who was given an assignment by God to build an ark to save him and his family and all the different kinds of animals from perishing in the coming worldwide flood.

Here are a few quick things we know from that story:

  • Mankind had become evil, so evil that God decided to destroy them and start over.

  • Water covered ALL the earth.

  • ALL of mankind except for Noah and his family were killed in the flood.

  • ALL the land animals died except for those on the ark.

  • The water came from two places, rain from the sky and the fountains of the deep.

  • The water reached its peak around the 150th day.

  • Noah and the animals lived in the ark for one year until God said it was time to leave.

According to the Bible, the flood occurred less than 5,000 years ago. I realize that goes against common beliefs, so let’s keep looking and see what we find.

A Scargazers Journey

Discovering and highlighting the evidence of the Biblical story is the purpose of our Scargazers journey, and we plan to share through our website, regular newsletters, and a YouTube channel.

We’ll show places we’ve already visited (like the photo below in the Grand Canyon, seen from the air in the previous photo) along with new places, taking photos and videos that help highlight and show what you’d expect to see if a worldwide flood occurred as described in the Bible.

The Jeep photo was taken on the little dirt road you can see in the circle.

Upcoming Topics

  • What does the Bible text actually tell us about the flood?

  • Lessons from Mount St. Helens, 45 years since May 18, 1980.

  • The earth’s plates, a discussion about the global impact of the flood.

  • Why do we find lava (basalts) all over the western US?

Connect with Us

We welcome questions and comments and will reply personally to emails we receive.

We will also get an amazing insight into our time in history today. In the New Testament book of 2 Peter 3:5-6 we read, “… it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed, being deluged with water.” (Bible verses from the LSB.)

Let’s not let it escape our notice!
